Not Punditry, but Self Righteousness

The Pushy Pundits Forced Romney Out

While it is true that all Americans have the right to choose, we should use this right for the betterment of the country.  Unfortunately, the election process for many Americans has become a status symbol or proof of life.  It was not punditry that chased Mitt Romney out of the race!  It was ignorance, selfishness, and a "using the race to prove who you are" attitude.  Over the past several weeks and even months I have been receiving a ton of emails from friends and acquaintances telling me why Mike Huckabee should be our next President.  I am a Christian from the home town of Jerry Falwell and I do believe fully in my faith however, I also realize that the President of the United States first duty is to uphold and abide by The Constitution of The United States of America.  To vote for a candidate because of one issue alone (oh, and the fact that he is a Baptist preacher) is absurd, and bordering on ignorance.  First, whether or not abortion is legal or illegal at the federal level should not be the true issue at hand.  According to the Constitution (a strict constructionist view) abortion should be handled at the state level not the Federal.  So Huckabee's stand, while noble, and scriptural, is not Constitutional, and while McCain calls himself a strict constructionist,  he is as close to being pro-choice as you can get and still be labeled a "Republican".  We have had two candidates who have stood on the Constitution as their base on abortion, and that is Fred Thompson and Mitt Romney.  Both have said they are against abortion, but legally speaking it should be left up to the individual state.  Thompson did candidate as well as one needs to to gain the nomination, and Mitt had been forced out by the "Conservative Christian" voters who have tow issues; (a) abortion being illegal at the federal Level, and (b)Romney is a Mormon!  Yep, that is right Mitt Romney is a Mormon.  You would not believe how many emails from Christians that I have received detailing that another reason not to vote for Romney is because he is a Mormon.  What ridiculous stupidity.  You would choose to put Huckabee in the Presidential candidate spot (who doesn't stand a chance at winning against either of the two Democratic evils) rather than a strong candidate who stands for what conservatives believe just because he believes in a different god than you.  In essence you are handing the presidency over to a Muslim or an atheist because you don't want a Mormon in office.  Get real. Just because you think your voting for Huckabee proves that you are the Christian you act like in church isn't a good reason to vote for him.  Live out your backsliding under some other guise that does not affect the whole entire country!  No, Janice, I don't think it was punditry that pushed him out.  It was the "selfish, trying to make a religious point, afraid to stand for something for fear that my fellowship group won't approve" types that have pushed him out.
I leave you with a quote from

Mitt Romney Drops Out of GOP Presidential Race

"Romney failed to win a major primary or caucus. He was successful in states he has lived in and states close by. But he failed to win over Republican evangelicals suspicious of his Mormon faith, who turned instead to Huckabee, an ordained Baptist minister."

That sums it up!
